With 2024 fast approaching, North Wales Crusaders Women’s head of rugby Becki Davies is looking to build on the solid foundations set by her side this year.
In their inaugural season, the very first North Wales Crusaders women’s team, under the guidence of Davies, won five from five of their fixtures.
Speaking about the squad’s first season together, Davies said: “I’m so proud of the girls who’ve come in and given everything for the club this last year.
“We didn’t know what was in store, but the bond this squad has very quickly developed can really take us places.
“We started off this season looking to play a few fixtures, but what I really wanted to focus on was the girls coming down to training and enjoying themselves doing something which they love with people who they get along with.
“What we’ve gone onto achieve has been more than any of us really expected, and I honestly couldn’t be prouder.”
Davies, who herself plays for Championship outfit Salford Red Devils as well as gaining international caps with Wales, is now looking ahead to to future for both herself and the squad: “I’ve currently made some tentative enquiries with the RFL about joining a league for 2024, but that decision will probably come when I sit down with the new head coach and we assess what we have and where we’re at, Davies said.
“I’ve stepped up to become head of women’s rugby at the club and I can’t thank both the club and the foundation enough for supporting me in that decision.
“That allows me to concentrate on building for the future looking at getting more girls involved with the club and it also allows me to bring someone in with a little bit more experience coaching wise than what I have to be able to take this group forward and develop them.
“We’ve already had one of the squad attract interest from a Super League side already and that goes to show that what we’re doing is right.
“I try to use my own personal experiences both good and bad to put things in place here and ensure we have a really strong setup.
“We’re now advertising for a new head coach, we’ve had a decent level of interest so far so once they’re in place we can start preparing for whatever 2024 will look like for us.”
